There is a lot of talk about how texting and social media is dominating human communications. Young adults sitting in the same room will text each other instead of talking. Even my youngest daughter’s ex-boyfriend asked her to be his girlfriend through a text message. But just because social media communications is becoming the dominant form of communication there are many business people who prefer the old fashion way of communicating by speaking to a live person.
The following story is how I became aware of how important it is to make sure that we communicate efficiently on all communication platforms old and new.
A prospect called me yesterday after reviewing our website and deciding that we offer the services & products she was looking to purchase. During our conversation the prospect informed me that she was unable to locate our phone number on our website. She had to call referring organization to get our company’s phone number.
She praised us for being high tech and social media savvy as we have all of our social media contacts listed all over our website but the most basic form of communication is not easily present on our website.
So we’ve changed that by adding our contact phone numbers in our bios and making it larger on our “Contact Us” page. We have a toolbar at the bottom of our website that will pop up an invitation to call us with our phone numbers listed.
I encourage you to review your website(s) your Facebook fan pages and other social media profiles and ensure that your all of your contact information is up to date and listed in prominent locations.
That prospect really wanted to talk with us since she searched through our website and call a referral to get our number. But the real point is how many people thought the same and decided not to contact us because we didn’t make our phone numbers easy to find.
